REPORT: The role of European funds in the development of coal regions

The topic of the November 19 debate held in Prague was the development of coal regions.

  • The issue of coal regions' development and fair energy transformation is currently resonating with the European climate debate. The discussion was focused on the current and future setting of EU cohesion policy at the national level and its impact on the socially considerate elimination of coal in the Czech Republic.
  • Speakers included Zdeněk Čech from the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic, Petr Globočník, a representative of the town of Litvínov, Josef Janů, the Regional Development Council of the Karlovy Vary Region and Tomáš Siviček from the Innovation Center of the Ústí Region. The debate was moderated by Zuzana Vondrová from the Centre for Transport and Energy.
  • The event was organised by the Centre for Transport and Energy and EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy.
