Turkey has always been the loyal ally of North Atlantic Treaty Organization since her membership in 1952. Turkey sees NATO as her primary security alliance and the only western institution where she has leverage. While NATO membership remains very important for Turkey, it is difficult to assert that Turkey's relationship with NATO garners the same energy it once had during the heights of the Cold War.
