European Security and Defence Policy and Implications of the EU enlargement on the future neighbourhood policy of the EU

Executive Summary:

The aim of this proposal was to develop the current EU policies research program of EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy with a view of setting up, in a mid-term horizon, a Transatlantic research program. It also strives at reinforcing the research capacity of Europeum and its policy impact in the Czech Republic as well as internationally. The core of this proposal in terms of research was addressing issues that are of relevance to the Czech foreign policy in a view of its upcoming accession to the European Union as well as to the transatlantic relations.

The aim of this project was to come up with series of recommendations addressed to the actors in the Czech foreign policy. The recommendations were based on research which drawed not only on the Czech perspective of the given problem. It reflected also the attitudes of the neighbouring countries, especially Visegrád Group, and major players in the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy including France, Germany and the UK. This was achieved by close co-operation with partner institutes in V4 countries, in Western Europe and in the United States. In this way, the project contributef to fostering already existing links with partner policy institutes in Central and Eastern Europe, Western Europe and in the US, facilitate joint research, joint events and joint dissemination efforts.

  • Transatlantic Relations 2009: A Chance for a Fresh Start?

    The initial versions of nearly all contributions to the fi rst part of this publication saw the light of day during the international conference “Transatlantic Relations 2009 – A Chance for a Fresh Start?” held in Prague in May 2009. The second part of this publication consists of policy papers, developed by leading EU and US experts in the framework of the Transatlantic Policy Forum project, focusing on the following issues: Trade, Energy and Climate Change, Democracy Promotion and EU Neighbourhood.
