Central Europe in the EU - How the Czechs shape the EU politics?

Based on its successful experiences in organising European Summer Schools from 2003 to 2008 EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy in cooperation with the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University is launching the second year of European Spring School in Prague.

European Spring School 2009

The European Spring School 2009 (ESpS 2009) - Central Europe in the EU - How the Czech shape the EU politics?- will focus on the role, activities and influence of the new member states, from Central Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) in the enlarged European Union and its institutions. Participants of the ESpS 2009 will learn about and discuss the the current political and economic challenges the EU member states in the Central Europe are facing. Lots of attention will be paid to the Czech presidency and its priorities for the first half of 2009.

The European Spring School 2009 is aiming to provide answers to a variety of questions you might have about new Member states regarding their problems, positions, activities and influence in the EU three years after becoming full-fledged members. These will reflect their present experience and views for the future development, of their economies, their participation in the EU Foreign and Security Policy, positions concerning further EU enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy etc. The theoretical part of the lectures will focus on the decision making process in the EU institutions on the background of the current developments in the EU decision making.

This extraordinary event is going to provide a great opportunity to share ideas with policy researchers from the Czech Republic who are carrying out the research on the EU integration process, participation of the member states in the EU policy making and influences of the changing EU politics. Taking part in this spring school you will not only gain the knowledge and understand the position and view of Central European Member States, but you will also have a chance to meet new people and get new experince.
