"Democracy in the West is under threat and Europe must prepare for an existence without the United States of America," the Belgian prime minister told MEPs. He was referring to the possible return of Donald Trump to the White House. Is democracy in Europe really under threat? Our executive director Martin Vokálek commented on the topic in an interview with TN Nova.
"It's certainly a very significant situation, what we're going to face in the next election year 2024. The Belgian prime minister said directly that we shouldn't worry about the non-existence of Europe without the US, but we should make it our priority. He said that Europe must be stronger, more sovereign and more self-sufficient. It is certainly a strong appeal, something that has been discussed for a long time, something that has been said behind the scenes, something that has been said by most experts, and certainly something that is good to hear from the position of the Belgian Prime Minister, who now holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU."
