Hospodářské noviny | The Czech Republic can raise billions to fight transport poverty, but the government is hesitant on key legislation

A household is at risk of transport poverty if it either spends a large proportion of its budget on transport needs, cannot meet all its transport needs, or has no cheaper alternatives to private or public transport. According to a study by the analytical institute STEM, on average three percent of households in the Czech Republic are at risk of this situation. Rebeka Hengalová, a researcher at EUROPEUM Institute, comments for Hospodářské noviny.

Dopravní chudobou je ohrožena domácnost, která buď na pokrytí svých dopravních potřeb dává velkou část svého rozpočtu, nemůže naplnit všechny své dopravní potřeby, anebo pro ni nejsou dostupné levnější alternativy osobní či veřejné dopravy. STVR | Last day to announce EU Commissioner candidates

25 of the 27 EU Member States have already nominated candidates for the new European Commission. So far, 17 are men and 7 are women. According to the President of the European Commission Ursula von den Leyen, only Bulgaria has nominated both a man and a woman. The President also confirmed that there will be a new position of European Commissioner for Defense. Viktor Daněk, Deputy Director of EUROPEUM Institute, commented for Slovakian STVR.

STVR | Poslední den na oznámení kandidátů do Evropské komise

Kandidáty do nové Evropské komise navrhlo už 25 z 27 členských států Evropské unie. Zatím je na seznamu 17 mužů a 7 žen. Podle předsedkyně Evropské komise Ursuly von den Leyen, jediné Bulharsko navrhlo muže a ženu. Ta také potvrdila, že vznikne nová pozice eurokomisaře pro obranu. Pro slovenskou STVR komentoval Viktor Daněk, zástupce ředitele Institutu EUROPEUM.

We invite you to a screening of the film Stranger in Paradise (2016) from this year's One World Festival, which will be followed by a debate on the topic of migration to Europe. The film focuses on questions often faced by immigrants coming to Europe: What do you really want from Europe? Is Europe just a paradise where you can freely pick its fruits? Belgian actor Valentijn Dhaenens, who plays the role of a mentor in the documentary, confronts them with various model reactions from Europeans to their arrival. The film explores issues such as who gets the chance to stay in Europe, on what criteria these decisions are based, and how complex the mechanisms are that determine entry into this "paradise."

e15 | Síkela has a chance at a key position in the new European Commission, von der Leyen faces tough negotiations

Intense behind-the-scenes negotiations are currently underway in Brussels over the allocation of 27 positions in the new European Commission, which will once again be led by Ursula von der Leyen. The German politician faces two major challenges: the limited number of strong economic portfolios, which many member states, including the Czech Republic, are vying for, and the effort to create the first-ever gender-balanced Commission, complicated by the predominance of male candidates. The situation was commented on for e15 by Žiga Faktor, Deputy Director of EUROPEUM Institute.
