Such doubts have arisen because of France's long-standing skepticism about the future of the enlargement process, especially towards the Western Balkans. However, since the start of the war in Ukraine and under its presidency, France has significantly changed its approach towards the candidate countries in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe, and it can be said that these assumptions have so far been dispelled.
