RTVS | Britain is considering a return to Erasmus+

The European Union and the United Kingdom are signalling a willingness to renew and strengthen their relationship, which has noticeably cooled after Brexit. In addition to the new defence agreement, both sides are preparing a return to an area that used to be a symbol of European cooperation: student exchanges. The UK could rejoin the Erasmus+ programme after years, which would mark a major reversal of London's previous approach and an important step towards rebuilding trust, especially among the younger generation. Viktor Daněk, director of the EUROPEUM Institute's Prague office, commented on the situation for RTVS.

The Erasmus programme is one of the most successful initiatives offered by the European Union, with thousands of students going abroad every year. Today, people of all ages can take part in the programme. It was hugely disappointing when, during the Brexit negotiations, the British side refused to continue to participate in the programme. If it were now possible to negotiate re-engagement, it would be a phenomenal success and, in a way, a partial compensation for the damage caused by Brexit.
