TN Live | Von der Leyen faces a vote of no confidence

The European Parliament decides today on a vote of no confidence in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen over the affair known as Pfizergate. Martin Vokálek, executive director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented on the situation for TN Live.
10. July 2025

The official reason for initiating the vote was the so-called Pfizergate scandal, highlighting the European Commission’s lack of transparency under Ursula von der Leyen’s leadership and its failure to deliver on the set priorities. The vote was triggered by MEPs from the political fringes of the European Parliament.

In my opinion, there is zero chance that the motion of no confidence will pass. Given the current balance of power in the European Parliament, behind-the-scenes information, and statements from Ursula von der Leyen herself—as well as from socialists and democrats who were initially somewhat undecided—it is clear that the Commission’s support will hold. In fact, this very morning von der Leyen promised certain concessions to this faction in connection with the preparation of the next long-term EU budget.

The interview is available to watch on TN Live.
