Jana Juzová, a researcher at our Institute, commented on the current situation around the EU Summit with the Western Balkans in Slovenia on Czech radio ČRo Plus. The comment was about how to approach the countries of the Western Balkans, which can potentially join the European Union, but also why the European Union counts on a model of gradual accession.
Host: Could there be any specific data mentioned at this summit in Slovenia regarding further accession talks?
Jana Juzová: The ambition was supposedly there, from what we know, the Slovenian Presidency tried to get wording in the joint declaration, which the leaders signed at the end, that enlargement would take place by 2030, but it will probably not appear there, because many European countries are very skeptical about enlargement and they are still not ready. On the other hand, the European Union is not yet ready to commit itself to such adoption, so it will probably not be possible to set a specific date.
