Martin Vokálek

Executive Director and Head of Brussels Office

Martin Vokálek holds a master’s degree in International Politics and Diplomacy from the Faculty of International Relations of the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE v Praze) and an MBA degree from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland and the Prague University of Economics and Business, Czechia. His minor was Project Management, and he has also completed courses in Management and Law at the Management Centre Innsbruck, Austria. He has participated for several years in the European Youth Parliament and the Czech Student Union, was a Vice President and Member of the Academic Senate, and has co-founded the Czech chapter of the student transatlantic think-tank European Horizons. For several years, he collaborated on the project of CERMAT, worked at the Institute of International Relations and other institutions, served as the Finance Manager at the International Sustainable Finance Centre, and was active also in the private sector.

He is currently the Executive Director of the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, having started there as the Office and Project Manager in 2016. He is interested in economic issues, European security and NATO, hybrid threats, war crimes and international law problematic.

Martin Vokálek, executive director of the Europeum Institute for European Policy, commented for E15 on the tense situation between the European Union and the UK in the area of economy and trade. In particular, the problematic region of Northern Ireland and compliance with the so-called Good Friday Agreement. The emergence of new tariff barriers between Britain and the European bloc is thus clearly a real threat.

The long-successful format of the Café Evropa debate has been running since 2015. The aim is to mediate discussions on European issues and the position of the Czech Republic in the EU to the general public. The discussing guests of Café Evropa are experts on the issue and representatives of European and Czech institutions. Since 2017, debates have been held not only in Prague but also in the Czech regions.

On Friday, June 11, the national round of the EuropaSecura competition for high schoolers, which our institute co-organized with the Czech Army and the Ministry of Defense, ended. 42 students in the competition measured their knowledge of international and security policy and overcame obstacles in the field. The first three teams won a three-day trip to Brussels.
