Cinema Europa: Drenched in Oil | Screening with Discussion
The documentary reveals the significant influence oil has in today’s society. Fossil fuel reserves are dwindling, yet many of the objects we use are made from it. Oil is essential for the entire global economy.
The film explores the oil business in the British Isles, specifically in the North Sea. It tells the story of today’s society’s pathological dependence on oil—a commodity that is non-renewable in the short term. We possess detailed knowledge about what irresponsible handling of fossil fuels entails and how it may affect future generations. And yet, even in the 21st century, humanity remains heavily dependent on oil. Why haven’t we pulled the emergency brake yet and started thinking more about the future of our children? How did our economies become so intertwined with the oil industry? This thought-provoking film presents insights from a wide spectrum of experts, students, and activists.
