Bruselské chlebíčky | How the EU is marketed in the Czech Republic and what is the politicians' fault

The immunization against the EU is in the hands of politicians, who have a pivotal impact on the public debate, on what people learn about the EU, because when the EU reaches the majority of society at all, it is from the mouths of politicians and often in an altered, very selectively chosen form, which then contributes to a very distorted perception of the Czech Republic in the EU.
The Czechs are capable of negotiating many things in the EU, even overturning the majority opinion in the EU on such key issues as nuclear energy, where the Czech Republic has contributed greatly to the fact that nuclear energy is now seen as equal to renewable energy sources. Emission limits are also an excellent example; the Czech Republic has made a major contribution to turning the tide on the Euro 7 emission standards that the European Commission has come up with. There are many such examples, another being the migration pact, which is also one of those in which the Czech Republic has managed to push through the previously unthinkable.
It is possible to arouse interest in the EU, and this has been shown repeatedly in practice, but politicians do not want to explain and repeatedly put their heads in a noose they are sewing on themselves. They negotiate something, they're a bit ashamed of it and they know they can't defend it to the Czech voters, so they don't talk about it much, and then someone knocks them over the head
