Česká televize | Commission erred, must explain von der Leyen's messages with Pfizer, court rules

The European Commission erred in refusing to disclose messages between Ursula von der Leyen and Pfizer chief Albert Bourla, according to the EU court's ruling. The communications concerned the purchase of billions of euros of vaccines. The Commission said it respected the verdict and would prepare a new justification for its action. Martin Vokálek, executive director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented for Czech Television.

It is a good example that mechanisms and controls within the rule of law and good governance do work. Even someone like Ursula von der Leyen is not untouchable and cannot do what she wants and not be 100% transparent. However, the text message affair is not a good sign for von der Leyen's political career. It has given ammunition to Eurosceptics and opponents within the political groups that have supported her so far.
