Their message is clear: the resignation of regional Prime Minister Carlos Mazón (Partido Popular), whom they hold fully responsible for the mishandling of the floods. The situation was commented on for CNN Prima News by Carlos Gómez del Tronc, an analyst at the EUROPEUM Institute and head of the Just Europe project.

Since the floods, public trust in the regional government has significantly declined. Although the national leadership of the Partido Popular (currently in opposition) has expressed verbal support for him, it has been rather lukewarm. Valencia had long been considered a stronghold of the PP – a dominance only interrupted by a left-wing government between 2015 and 2023. Now, however, the weaknesses of the conservatives in the region are becoming evident.
