ČRo Plus | EU must remind Trump of its role in supporting Ukraine

Ukraine categorically rejects any peace agreement concluded without its direct participation. President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. While Trump speaks optimistically about the impending end of the war, European and Ukrainian officials are talking more about a cold shower than a breakthrough in the negotiations. Martin Vokálek, Executive Director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented on the situation for Czech Radio Plus.

First and foremost, the European Union must speak with one voice and must act from a position of strength and ability to contribute to the situation. The EU must proclaim and remind Donald Trump that it was Europe that was the guarantor behind the support for Ukraine from the beginning. The US must realise that we have also supported Ukraine by taking in hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees and giving them space in our societies, which the US has not done.
