Our senior researcher Kateřina Davidová commented for ČRo Plus on the postponement of the vote to end the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines, which is to apply from 2035. Its final approval was not supported at the last minute by Germany, which is concerned that the proposal does not include an exemption for vehicles that would burn synthetic fuels.

"The main reason is the issue of the exemption for synthetic fuels in the final draft. It is important that an agreement is reached as soon as possible. It is essential for the European automotive industry to have a clear framework and a clear vision for the future. In China and the United States, support for electromobility has been growing in recent years. Europe needs a clear roadmap to remain competitive."
