DW | Muslims struggle to find mosque location in central Prague
In 2024, the central mosque in the Czech capital, Prague, was shut down. Since then, the Muslim community has not been able to establish a new one. Carlos Gómez del Tronco, Head of Just Europe Programme, commented for DW.com

Negative trends in anti-muslim public opinion and politics did not begin in 2014-15 here in Czechia. What changed then was that for many Czechs, for the first time, Islamic fundamentalism, jihadism, and Muslim migration became political issues that were urgent and could have an impact on them.
For many Czechs, expressing opposition to Islam or Muslim migration became a symbolic and sort of socially acceptable way of expressing other positions regarding EU governance, national security, and cultural identity.
