The European Commission opens a debate on aviation support in the coming years. The new rules should start to apply after 2027. In particular, the guidelines are intended to minimize negative effects on competition and aim to preserve connectivity. This means that government funding of one airline or airport should not harm its competitors. And that public support should be directed in particular towards smaller regional airports that play an important role in domestic transport - for example, islands or other airports in hard-to-reach locations.
