Ekonomický deník | The European Commission has extended the list of banned airlines. Tanzania and Suriname added

The European Commission has extended the list of air carriers banned from operating in EU countries. The new list includes all airlines certified in Tanzania and Suriname due to serious and systemic deficiencies in aviation oversight there. Although the measure does not directly affect the Czech Republic, it may affect some Czech passengers, with the risk of cancelled or rerouted flights. Safety risk is assessed according to a country's ability to ensure effective oversight of its air carriers. The European Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rely mainly on International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) audits, their own inspections and information from national authorities. The number of ‘banned’ airlines varies slightly with each update of the list, which usually occurs twice a year. Of the 169 carriers, 142 are currently banned due to lack of oversight in their home country, and 27 are individually banned due to specific risks, such as breaches of regulations or serious incidents.
