Euractiv.cz | Czech Republic on the Hungarian disinformation trail? It could lose its status as the most resilient V4 country, warns research

The Czech Republic is in danger of following the Hungarian path in accepting disinformation, especially about the war in Ukraine. While Czech citizens mostly perceive Russia as the clear aggressor, research warns against changing the narrative. The upcoming elections and the possibility of Andrej Babiš's return to power could influence the direction of Czech politics and perceptions of international issues. Audiences in the V4 countries are now increasingly exposed to polarising images of Ukraine and its future. The problem is exacerbated by political disputes within individual countries in the region, where the issue of the war in Ukraine is being used to distract attention from domestic problems or to mobilise voters. In terms of resilience to harmful influences, Czech news consumers fare best compared to other V4 countries. This is particularly stark in contrast to the state of public debate in Hungary. However, this cannot be taken as a guarantee of a positive future development, especially given the trend of declining consumption of traditional media content.
