iRozhlas | Síkela has a strong team and an active agenda. But there is a lack of contact with Czech citizens
Jozef Síkela (STAN) has completed his first six months as EU Commissioner for International Partnerships. He has visited 17 countries on three continents on topics ranging from lithium mining in Chile to transport in Central Asia to education in Africa. His appointment has been hailed as a success by the government, particularly due to his “strong economic portfolio”. However, experts point out that it is too early to really assess his work - there are repeated criticisms of poor communication. Martin Vokálek, executive director of the EUROPEUM Institute, and analyst Zuzana Krulichová commented for iRozhlas.

I appreciate that Síkela has surrounded himself with a strong team that helps him to cover areas where he has not had much experience. I also see it as positive that the Czech Commissioner is actively travelling to third countries and making international visits. However, Mr Sikel should also think that, as the highest-ranking Czech in European structures, he could bring the European Union closer to the Czech public, talk about the EU at home and involve the Czech public.
