Sestry.eu | German elections: results, peculiarities and the country's future course

Everything indicates that after four years in opposition, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), which secured nearly a third of the votes (28.5%) in the elections, will return to power. Executive Director of the EUROPEUM Institute, Martin Vokálek, commented for Sestry.eu.

After the elections, I expect a return to a more decisive policy. And I hope that will be the case.

If Donald Trump continues to strengthen ties with Russia or actually tries to negotiate a deal on Ukraine without European consensus, Germany, under new leadership, will likely have to take on greater responsibility for European security.
