Warsaw took over the EU Council Presidency in the face of major global and European challenges: in addition to Russia's war in Ukraine, also the start of Donald Trump's presidency, the German elections and the political crisis in France. Finding a balance between strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy and emphasising NATO's role as the cornerstone of European security could be an important issue during the next six months of the Polish Presidency.
