Little is being done to avert Europe's economic decline. According to Filip Křenek, an analyst at the EUROPEUM Institute, member states must accept that some of them will have companies of global significance and others will not. The Czech Republic is one of the most industrialized economies in Europe and, at the same time, very energy-intensive. That is why energy prices are extremely sensitive for Czech companies. This is a legitimate issue. However, I do not think that the solution is to abolish the emissions trading system. In many European countries, the ETS has served as a tool that has kick-started the decarbonization of energy and industry. In terms of long-term impact, it is more important for Czechia to complete the single European market—that is, to remove the barriers that currently prevent companies from growing, scaling up, and becoming global players.
