This is an extremely dangerous situation where speculation on so-called national interests can block collective decisions and undermine confidence in the EU's commitment to its own strategic objectives.
We have seen other cases where Member States have blocked the EU enlargement process, but Hungary stands out by opposing support for Ukraine or more decisive action against Russia - often without clearly articulated or legitimate national interests to justify such action.
