The key takeaways from today’s meeting, which took place across several levels, were primarily about aligning messages ahead of Friday’s summit, where Donald Trump is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin. Ideally, the goal was to establish what Trump should represent on behalf of the EU.

The most crucial points expressed were that no country should be allowed to forcibly seize the territory of another sovereign state. It was also emphasized that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire — but it is President Putin who has been waging an aggressive war against Ukraine for over three years and who continues to reject any signs that he might back down from his military ambitions.
