STVR | EU leaders have called for stronger defence

The decision to increase defence spending is a breakthrough. The summit focused on how to strengthen the European Union's defence capabilities and how to further address support to Ukraine. In recent years, Europe has somewhat naively relied on the US within NATO as a security guarantor. Martin Vokálek, Executive Director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented for STVR.

I myself am surprised that Prime Minister Fico has endorsed the resolution on Ukraine and declared that he is in favour of aid flowing to Ukraine.

Of course, it is up to individual states to decide how they will do this support. If Prime Minister Fico chooses not to continue to send military and financial support to Ukraine and only wants humanitarian support, he has that option, and some aid is better than none.
