The EU court will consider whether European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen violated transparency rules by refusing to disclose text messages she exchanged with the CEO of Pfizer during the pandemic. The court is to decide whether there was a concealment of information. Martin Vokálek, director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented on the situation for TV Nova.

It is, in a way, a natural part of the normal negotiation process. In 2021, we were in the middle of a deep pandemic, but it was a major crisis, and in such situations we need to communicate through all available channels. At the same time, however, it is problematic, for the reason that certain rules of the game must apply. If it is a multi-billion euro contract, it must be documented exactly what was negotiated, how it was negotiated, and it must be clearly demonstrated that there has been no infringement of the interests of the European Union or its citizens.
