Report | Roundtable: The Future of European Migration Policy Following the Adoption of the European Migration Pact

The discussion reflected on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum, which entered into force in June 2026 and represents the most comprehensive reform of the European asylum and migration system in recent years. It focused on ways to increase the efficiency of cooperation among Member States, the new return legislation, the protection of external borders, and the complex issue of cooperation with third countries. The participants emphasized the need to factually de-escalate the debate and strictly distinguish legal migration from irregular migration. The debate also addressed the need for solidarity with geographically disadvantaged states, the strengthening of human rights guarantees for vulnerable persons, and political readiness for situations where migration is instrumentalized as a tool of hybrid pressure.
