CNN Prima News | Vote of No Confidence in the European Commission

The vote of no confidence in the European Commission was commented on for CNN Prima News by Martin Vokálek, Executive Director and Head of the Brussels Office of the EUROPEUM Institute.

There is virtually no chance that Ursula von der Leyen and her European Commission will be removed from office. Such a move would require a two-thirds majority of all present Members of the European Parliament, as well as an absolute majority of all MEPs — meaning more than 361 votes. Most of the main political groups that occupy the centre of the political spectrum, lead the European Parliament, and shape the direction of the EU have already stated that they will support Ursula von der Leyen. This is therefore more of a political move by groups on the fringes of the political spectrum.
