ČRo | An assessment of the first 100 days of Ursula von der Leyen's new Commission

As in her first term, the second will be a period of crisis management for the EU. In the first, Ursula von der Leyen had to deal with Covid and the start of the war in Ukraine; in the second, she has to deal with a rapidly deteriorating security and geopolitical situation. Viktor Daněk, deputy director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented for ČRo Plus.

As a politician, she brings experience from the national political environment, which certainly comes in handy. At the same time, she has learned from her first term in office, and this is also evident in the way she distributed portfolios. As Chair of the Commission, she will be more forceful and authoritative in her approach in her second term.

The warmer relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom has naturally been brought about by the geopolitical situation following the rise of Donald Trump. I would be sceptical about redefining the relationship between the countries for the time being, but both sides are certainly benefiting from the cooperation.
