EP groups reach a preliminary agreement on the division of committees in the new European Parliament. The strongest European People's Party Group would like to claim 7 of them, for example for foreign affairs, industry or agriculture. As far as committees are concerned, there is usually a gentleman's agreement in the European Parliament that positions are simply allocated according to the proportion of the votes cast in the elections.
