The United States of America is led by Donald Trump, who is changing his decisions quite radically and quickly and is trying to change the shape of the transatlantic relationship. First and foremost, he is thinking of the US.
But security and defence are a key domain for all other states. It is so key that unity must be universal and all member states must contribute to it, because it can affect everyone. Geographically, maybe it can be understood a little bit more from the Spanish point of view, I don't understand so much from the Hungarian or Slovak point of view, it is more political there.
It is simply a case of going a little bit against Donald Trump. It is the US that has been the driving force behind NATO and we cannot afford to lose it. In a way, it is certainly pandering, but to a certain extent it is based on rationality and pragmatism. Just as Trump is trying to claim that he is acting pragmatically for the American people.
