The European Commission has expanded the list of airlines banned from operating in European Union countries. It has newly added all airlines certified in Tanzania and Suriname due to serious and systemic deficiencies in aviation oversight in those countries.
Although the measure does not directly affect the Czech Republic, it may impact some Czech travelers—there is a risk of canceled or rerouted flights.
Filip Křenek, an analyst from the EUROPEUM Institute, commented on the situation for Ekonomický deník.

The safety risk is assessed based on a country's ability to ensure effective oversight of its air carriers. The European Commission and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) primarily rely on audits conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), their own inspections, and information provided by national authorities.
The number of “banned” airlines fluctuates slightly with each update of the list, which generally occurs twice a year. Currently, out of 169 carriers, 142 are banned due to insufficient oversight in their home country, while 27 are banned individually due to specific risks—such as regulatory violations or serious incidents.
