iROZHLAS | Vokálek: Czechia should have the right to a full exemption from the solidarity contribution
Czechia plans to request a full exemption from solidarity contributions under the EU migration pact after being classified as a country facing a “significant migration situation.” According to Martin Vokálek, the country is likely to obtain the exemption due to the high number of Ukrainian refugees it hosts. EU member states will make the final decision at the December summit. The article was commented on by Martin Vokálek, Executive Director and Head of the Brussels Office at EUROPEUM.

"Experts note that the migration pact also brings important benefits. EU countries are divided based on the type of migration pressure they face — some deal with high numbers of arrivals at their borders (like Italy or Greece), while others host large groups of refugees already living in the country, such as the Czech Republic and Poland.
The Czech Republic is currently integrating Ukrainian refugees very successfully, and data shows they contribute more to the state budget than they cost. However, circumstances may change, and the country could eventually face higher migration pressure and require support from other EU members."
