Roundtable | Hungary’s European Reset? Implications for the EU and the Future of V4 Cooperation

What is Hungary’s future direction within the European Union? And how will any changes affect cooperation among the Visegrad Group countries? We will address these questions on July 15 during a roundtable discussion at the EUROPEUM Institute’s Brussels office. We are organizing this event in collaboration with the Think Visegrad Platform.
15. July 2026

The discussion will focus on the first steps of the new Hungarian government led by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, particularly on restoring relations with EU institutions, efforts to unlock European funds, and strengthening trust between Budapest and Brussels. Panelists will assess how the shift in Hungarian policy might affect the unity of the European Union, support for Ukraine, the EU enlargement process, and Hungary’s position in European decision-making.

Another key topic will be the future of cooperation among the V4 countries. Speakers will discuss whether the political shift in Hungary will create space for the renewal of regional cooperation, which has been weakened in recent years by member states’ differing stances on Russia, Ukraine, and European integration. The debate will also address the question of what role Central Europe should play in shaping the future direction of the European Union.

Guests:

  • Judit Rozsa (European Commission, DG REFORM)
  • Júlia Pőcze (CEPS)
  • Andrzej Sadecki (OSW)
  • Tomáš Strážay (SFPA)

The roundtable will be moderated by Martin Vokálek, Executive Director of the EUROPEUM Institute. The panel discussion will be followed by an informal networking session.

WHEN: July 15, 2026,
WHERE: EUROPEUM Institute’s Brussels office, Avenue de Broqueville 40, 1200 Woluwe-Saint-Lambert
