Report | After the Draghi Report: The Role of Central Europe in Strengthening EU Competitiveness

On 23 March 2026, EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, in cooperation with the Think Visegrad Platform, organised a roundtable discussion focused on the future of EU competitiveness in an increasingly challenging geopolitical and economic environment.

Building on the findings of the 2024 Draghi Report, the discussion explored the EU’s widening gap in productivity, innovation, and investment, while emphasizing that the main challenge lies not in creating strategies, but in implementing them effectively. Participants also addressed structural weaknesses in the European innovation ecosystem, the need to balance strategic autonomy with economic openness, and the limits of the current growth model in Central and Eastern Europe.
