RTVS | European Commission sustains appeal

The motion for dismissal did not gain support even within the entire European Conservatives and Reformists group that submitted it. The main motive here is influence — a large part of the group, which includes, for example, Poland’s Law and Justice, the Czech ODS, or the Italian party led by Giorgia Meloni, realizes that they have no better alternative. It also often happens that the Christian Democrats, from whom Ursula von der Leyen comes, vote together with conservatives and reformists, and even with the so-called Patriots for Europe and other representatives on the right, thereby disrupting the current voting majority of the traditional alliance of socialists and liberals.

I believe the conservatives are aware that they currently have no other alternative. If the EU were to find itself in a personnel crisis and a power vacuum. In that case, it would have been difficult to predict who could have been President of the Commission, someone who would have given the Conservatives significantly more influence over the direction of EU policy.
