This phenomenon is called greenwashing, and the European Commission is addressing this issue. Is it necessary to address it with directives? The current commission is moving away from purely climate policy and is trying to respect companies and business with its initiatives so that people do not leave for other locations, such as the United States or China. It is also trying to reassure its voters, who have entirely justified concerns about the security of their countries. On the other hand, it is important to mention that the development of renewable energy sources contributes to the independence of individual countries, and if the entire European Union and all its member states worked together, they could protect themselves from economic pressures from third countries.
