ČT24 | What message do the results from Romania and Poland and the European reactions send to the EU

The results of the presidential elections in Romania and Poland and their impact on the EU were commented on for ČT24 by Viktor Daněk, Deputy Director of the EUROPEUM Institute.

In Poland, a massive voter mobilization can very likely be expected in the second round of the elections, as such a close result gives voters the feeling that everything is at stake – and that is a powerful mobilizing factor.

The result of the Romanian presidential election is certainly a great relief for the Western world. On the other hand, while Nicușor Dan is a candidate from the more open and liberal camp, in many respects he is a future president with conservative views. I would therefore consider it overly simplistic to see this in black-and-white terms, as merely a victory for liberalism.
