Právo | Von der Leyen will survive, but things are boiling over in the European Parliament

Historically, only once has the European Commission's mandate ended early. At the end of the 1990s, the executive under the leadership of Luxembourg's Jaques Santer resigned under the weight of a financial scandal. If it had not done so, MEPs would soon have voted no confidence in it.

The parliamentary institution of recalling the Commission has remained unused and today's MEPs' vote on the continuation of Ursula von der Leyen's Commission is unlikely to change this statistic.
