ČT24 | European Leaders' Summit in Brussels

The European Union is only strong in foreign policy when there is unity, otherwise states look for alternative methods and scenarios. Viktor Daněk, deputy director of the EUROPEUM Institute, commented for ČT24.

This does not mean that European summits are meaningless, we do not have an alternative platform and there are other topics that will need to be addressed. The EU is the best platform to deal with strategic issues at the highest level, and even on potentially contentious points, compromise is always necessary.

If the European Union is not accession-proof, states will look for other formats. Either the options will be dealt with in the European Council or they will be dealt with through other informal coalitions, such as the Coalition of the Willing, but in that case it means weakening the European Union.
